More Songs From GEICO Commercials

Ever wonder about those catchy tunes in the GEICO commercials?  Here's a little information on songs from some of our memorable spots.

"Save Me" From The Blueprint Commercial

Blueprint motorcycle

There have been several versions of the blueprint style commercials. They feature a unique, fast-paced animation style with the look and feel of a blueprint drawing. This installment highlights GEICO motorcycle insurance and closes with a graphic showing all GEICO's powersport insurance products. The catchy tune playing as the bike winds its way down the roadways is "Save Me." Sean Brennan, composer/sound designer, is credited with this song which he did with DCP Productions.

Mr. Butters And The Cockatoo Sing "Take On Me"cockatoo singing

There are better ways to save money but this woman trained Mr. Butters (her dog) and a cockatoo to perform the hits from the 80s! The original song, covered in the commercial, was released in 1984 by A-ha, a band from Norway. It sold a disappointing 300 copies. A new recorded version and a new video followed.  It was released 3 different times before it became a hit. The song became popular in the U.S. thanks to its innovative, award-winning music video which combined pencil-sketch animation and live-action.

Sexy GrandpaSexy Grandpa

"I'm not your daddy, I'm your grandpa." The Xtranormal commercials featured many interesting characters but none were as charismatic (or musical) as Sexy Grandpa. The commercials tout that they were made in 15 minutes but the legacy of Sexy Grandpa, and his catchy tune, will endure.

The song was created especially for this commercial spot by the talented folks at Beacon Street, a music production house. The singer is Biff Chitlins — hmmm, could that be a stage name?
