Financial Expert Kelvin Boston to lead Black Minister's Council's "Moneywise Community Economic Empowerment Program" in Newark on Jan. 19

NEWARK, N.J., Jan. 16, 2008 - GEICO is pleased to present the Black Minister's Council's "Moneywise Community Economic Empowerment Program" featuring financial expert Kelvin Boston. The PBS host and author will speak to Newark residents about their financial future on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the St. James A.M.E. Church located at 588 Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. in Newark.

"In this uncertain economy we are living in, access to financial information is very, very critical," said Kelvin Boston. "This event gives people an opportunity to meet trained experts from all over the country to talk about managing credit, saving money, owning a home, keeping a home faced with foreclosure, buying insurance and financial planning. One of the best things people can do to start off 2008 is by coming to this event sponsored by GEICO."

Also joining Mr. Boston will be financial experts from the Center for Responsible Lending, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), the Foundation for Financial Planning, the National Urban League, along with local banking and insurance experts. They will cover managing credit and credit lending, saving and investing, the financial planning process, home ownership and the steps to implement financial strategies.

"In 2007, the Moneywise outreach program served over 10,000 people in African-American churches and military installations. The program has helped make a positive impact in the financial lives of those who have attended the program. We are really looking forward to bringing this program to New Jersey."

The event is hosted by Rev. William Watley, Pastor of St. James A.M.E. Church, and Rev. Reginald T. Jackson, executive director of the Black Minister's Council. Rev. Jackson added "The Black Ministers Council is very involved in helping New Jersey resident enhance their financial well being. Focusing in 2008, we are doing everything we can to empower people with financial information."
