GEICO brings Junior Achievement Program to Burdell-Hunt Magnet School for Fourth Consecutive Year

MACON, Ga., January 28, 2007 - This week, 22 GEICO associates are taking on teaching assignments at Burdell-Hunt Magnet School to assist the Junior Achievement of Georgia Whole School Program. They will teach classes focused on the importance of business, economics and free enterprise to almost 400 students, kindergarten through fifth grade.

"It's a tremendous honor to have business leaders in our community come to our school to provide instruction about the importance of economics and the role we all play as consumers in society," said Principal Tanya Allen. "All of the teachers are eager for GEICO associates to be here teaching these valuable lessons. It's important for our students to start thinking about career paths at an early age and to realize how the financial actions they take now can impact their spending habits later."

Each grade level at Burdell-Hunt will focus on age-appropriate studies: younger students will learn about saving for themselves and how to spend wisely in a family; older students will learn how money works in society on a national level. GEICO associates will also share their own career experiences to demonstrate how everyone has a role to play in a successful economy.

GEICO Supervisor Sandra Anderson, said, "This is my third year participating in the Junior Achievement program at Burdell-Hunt and there is no better reward than to see the students' smiling faces when we arrive. It reminds us of what's more important in life because these students are our future. By the end of the week, I believe we've made a positive difference. And it is such a joy to see their reactions when the Gecko comes into the classroom to take pictures with them."

John Izzo, regional vice president of GEICO's Macon office, added, "At GEICO, one of our operating principles is to invest for total return. We look at our involvement in Junior Achievement as a long term investment in our youth. We are happy to provide our time and resources to help them develop an understanding of the economy and a great work ethic which pays off for them as well as our community later on."
