GEICO Honors 6 Associate Teams with Corporate Quality Award

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 21, 2008 - GEICO honored six teams of associates from around the country with the company's highest honor, the Corporate Quality Award, during special ceremonies today in Washington, D.C.

This is the 16th year that GEICO is honoring its associates for completing special projects which made GEICO more efficient with lower costs, increased the company's competitive advantage and helped maintain GEICO's service of the highest quality.

The awards represent the work of more than 1,000 GEICO associates.

GEICO Chairman Tony Nicely announced that the 2007 Corporate Quality Award honorees in the following categories are:

Award for Business Excellence: Jeff Lee of San Diego, Calif. and Stuart Paine of Leesburg, Va., accepted the award on behalf of the team led by John Karl of Manorville, N.Y that reduced manual handling and inconsistent time in processing claims documents.

Make It Easy Award: Michael Blanchard of Rockville, Md., and Craig Sybert of Gaithersburg, Md., accepted the award on behalf of their team which designed and implemented a database-driven claim file review system and a performance appraisal system.

Award for Innovation: Jason Burnside of Moyock, N.C., and Bruce Krakower of Virginia Beach, Va., accepted the award on behalf of their team which implemented a new business Internet platform for GEICO's Powersports business.

Award for Leadership in Improvement: Jennifer Hanft of Rockville, Md., and Nicolas Martinchick of Arlington, Va., accepted the award on behalf of their team which upgraded GEICO's Internet sales application from a manual click to call process to an automated process for customers interested in speaking with a representative over the phone while processing an Internet sale.

Special Chairman's Award: Alex S. Gomez of Chula Vista, Calif., accepted the award on behalf of his team's efforts to keep GEICO's San Diego regional location safe and operational during the March 2007 San Diego wildfires. Gomez and his team were also responsible for organizing GEICO's evacuation station at Qualcomm stadium.

Special Chairman's Award: Jonathan Shafner of Potomac, Md., and Paul Lavrey of Ijamsville, Md., earned their award when a class action lawsuit filed in 2001 was resolved in GEICO's favor after the U.S. Supreme Court issued its opinion last year finding that GEICO had correctly interpreted the notification requirements under the federal Fair Credit Reporting Act.

"We could not be more proud of these fine associates," said Nicely, "and their dedication to their responsibilities on the job. Our GEICO associates are inspired by these associates who have helped improve quality and service for our policyholders."
