SAN DIEGO, April 21, 2008 - GEICO honored Alex S. Gomez of Chula Vista, Calif., and Jeff Lee of San Diego with Corporate Quality Awards during special ceremonies today in Washington, D.C.
Gomez accepted a Corporate Quality Award on behalf of his team's efforts to keep GEICO's San Diego regional location safe and operational during the March 2007 San Diego wildfires and for the organization of GEICO's evacuation station at Qualcomm stadium. He has worked at GEICO for nine years currently serving as the region's facility manager. Upon receiving the award he said, "I am honored to accept this award on behalf of my team. It's a great feeling to be recognized for doing our part to aid in disaster recovery."
Lee accepted an award on behalf of the team that reduced manual handling and inconsistent time in processing claims documents, earning the team the Award for Business Excellence. Under their leadership, 97.3 percent of all claims documents are now imaged the same day as received. Lee is a payment recovery manager at the company's San Diego office and has worked at GEICO for more than 10 years. He added, "Many associates in each of the regions worked extremely hard to make consolidated imaging work in claims. I'm happy to be their representative, but this task was a huge undertaking that was only accomplished through a coordinated team effort of representatives from many departments."
