Arlington Heights Student National Winner of GEICO's Safety Belt Poster Contest

ARLINGTON HEIGHTS, Ill., March 27, 2007 - GEICO named Matthias Herman a national winner for GEICO's 2006 Safety Belt Poster Contest. Matthias earned top honors in the 6-8-year-old age group for his eye-catching artwork and proper display of seatbelt use.

Paul Cook, GEICO's auto damage manger in Chicago, recently presented Matthias with a cash award at a special ceremony at the Greater Wheeling Area Youth Outreach, Inc. GEICO also made a donation to the youth center in Matthias's name.

Matthias impressed judges from the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (U.S. Department of Transportation), the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Fleishman Hillard International Communications with his comprehensible and imaginative safety message.

"Our poster contest requires students to creatively illustrate the importance of wearing safety belts," said Mary Zarcone, regional vice president for GEICO's Midwest regional operations. "It's encouraging to see the number of young people showing an interest in traffic safety."

A record-breaking 2,713 students entered in 2006, which is GEICO's 20th anniversary for the poster contest.
