GEICO Honors Senior Chief Petty Officer Ramil S. Valdez With Military Service Award

WWASHINGTON, D.C., April 30, 2007 - Senior Chief Petty Officer Ramil S. Valdez is the Navy recipient of the 2006 GEICO Military Service Award for his volunteer work in fire safety and fire prevention.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Valdez is assigned as the safety officer for EODTEU One, San Diego, Ca. In addition to his regular duties, Senior Chief Petty Officer Valdez has supervised over 1,000 shipboard and civilian firefighters. His volunteer work has earned him the deserved reputation for exceptional leadership, initiative and military bearing.

Providing leadership and service to the community he lives in, Senior Chief Petty Officer Valdez trained and qualified 12 staff members of the Washington State Fire Training Academy. He wrote the site's augmentation plan, safety precautions and standard operating procedures, saving an estimated $100,000 in training costs.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Valdez and his wife, Mildred, have three children.
