Ralph Davis celebrates several careers and 45 years with GEICO

FREDERICKSBURG, Va., October 23, 2007 – When Ralph Davis of Stafford, Va., started working at GEICO in 1962, he didn't know that his job would give him a chance to try on several professions – all within the same company.

Davis celebrates his 45th anniversary with GEICO this week, and says while he didn't set out to stay with the same company his entire career, he wouldn't change a thing.

"I feel so lucky to have had quite a few different careers and still work for the same company," said Davis. "GEICO has provided me with so many opportunities for my career and in my personal life, namely meeting my wife, Judy, here more than 40 years ago."

Davis joined GEICO in 1962 as a mail messenger at GEICO's Chevy Chase, Md., headquarters. He was named supervisor of policy endorsements in 1967, and moved to the claims area when he was promoted to manager of the claims information center in 1969.

In 1974 he became a regional claims processing director. That was followed by a promotion to director of claims processing in 1978.

Davis changed course in 1982 when he was named administrator of postal affairs in 1982 and again in 1993 when he was promoted to manager of policy processing.

In 1994, Davis moved to GEICO's Fredericksburg regional office. There he attained his current position as manager of GEICO's National Print Mail Center (NPMC) in 2004. GEICO's NPMC produces and distributes more than 350 million policy documents and marketing pieces each year, and includes more than 300 associates. The NPMC is also one of three consolidated imaging centers, imaging more than 6 million piece of policy and claims mail.

"Ralph has worked in so many different aspects of the company, that he knows this company from top to bottom," said Nancy Pierce, regional vice president of the Fredericksburg office. "It has been said that no one is a stranger to Ralph. We are very proud of his professional accomplishments and we admire the sense of humor Ralph is famous for bringing to the job."

Locally, Davis created GEICO's internship program with Stafford High School and the high school's Safe Driving Rodeo in 1996.

His community commitment includes serving with the Stafford Rotary Club for 12 years, of which he previously served as president.

Davis is also a member of the advisory committee of State Delegate William Howell. In the 1990's, he served on the Stafford 20/20 Commission to help determine what Stafford County should look like, both economically and socially, in the year 2020.

Davis met his wife, Judy, at GEICO in 1965 and they married in 1970. She had also joined the company in 1962 and they are both celebrating their 45-year anniversaries with GEICO this month.

The Davis' have two married daughters, Melanie Montague of Prince Frederick, Md., and Lisa Pechacek of Stafford, and two grandsons, Nate and Alex.
