United Way of Metropolitan Dallas Honors GEICO for $150,000 Contribution

DALLAS, January 29, 2008 - United Way of Metropolitan Dallas recognized GEICO's Dallas office after its successful five-day campaign in which GEICO raised more than $150,000 in associate contributions, a record amount.

"GEICO has been our top campaign in the insurance industry for many years and 2007 was no exception," said Gary G. Godsey, president and chief executive officer, United Way of Metropolitan Dallas. "GEICO associates understand that by partnering with United Way, they are actually improving people's lives right in their own community."

Every year, GEICO's Regional Vice President, Gary Brown asks one outstanding employee to lead the drive as the Employee Campaign Coordinator (ECC). GEICO's 2007 ECC Joylene Penfold said, "It was an honor to organize the campaign and know that the money being raised is going to help people in our own community."

GEICO's $150,000 in corporate contributions will help with the following and more:

  • $10,000 will allow 75 children to have dental examinations.
  • $10,000 will provide 250 prescriptions at $40 each to uninsured families.
  • $10,000 provides basic well-child health care clinic visits for 125 infants.
  • $85,000 will allow 1,059 children to attend an after school program for one year.

Penfold and a team of co-workers spent months planning the campaign, offering associate incentives such as casual days and scheduling agency speakers.

Brown said, "Our work with United Way is rewarding in so many ways and we see how it benefits our local community. We have been very fortunate to work with United Way, and I personally encourage anyone who is considering getting involved to contact the local United Way to learn how they can help the community."
