GEICO Honors Jennie Allies with National Public Service Award

FORSYTH, Mont., May 5, 2008 - Jennie Allies of Forsyth, Mont., is the 2007 recipient of the GEICO Public Service Award for her work in the field of physical rehabilitation. Her superior knowledge of physical therapy services are evident at the Northern Cheyenne Service Unit in Lame Deer, Mont., where she serves as the sole staff member in the physical therapy department.

A true patient advocate, Allies works with patients ranging from infants to the elderly, dealing with a myriad of conditions including those associated with stroke, pediatric neurology and cardiac rehabilitation. Two years ago, Allies took on the duties of Service Unit Safety Officer to establish a safety program and developed four subcommittees to work on this venture, including life safety, emergency preparedness, infection control and the National Patient Safety Goals.

Outside of her work responsibilities, Allies works with local high school and college students to develop internship programs and contributes numerous hours of pro bono physical therapy services for people who have no health insurance or access to care, a true reflection of her dedication to her community.

GEICO's Public Service Awards each year honor five civilian career federal employees and retirees for outstanding achievements in the fields of substance abuse prevention and treatment, fire prevention and safety, physical rehabilitation, and traffic safety and accident prevention. Each will receive a $2,500 cash award, and all-expense paid trip to Washington, D.C. for a special recognition ceremony, and a commemorative plaque.
