GEICO donates $150,000 to Children's National Medical Center

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 14, 2008 – GEICO associates at the company's headquarters in Chevy Chase, Md., joined forces with GEICO's Philanthropic Foundation to donate $150,000 to Children's National Medical Center this year.

At a check presentation ceremony on Wednesday, October 15, Don Lyons, Chairman of the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation, will present the $150,000 check to Peter Holbrook, MD, chief medical officer, and Judy Graham, executive director of development, of Children's National Medical Center.

"GEICO is very proud of our associates' participation in this year's Children's Hospital campaign," said Lyons. "Some of our own associates' families have been cared for by the hospital, and we all know that Children's Hospital is a vital part of our community."

"We are so appreciative of GEICO's dedication to giving back to the community, and most especially their devotion to Children's National," said Holbrook. "Their support allows us to dedicate our efforts to improving the health of children in the Washington, DC area, across the country, and around the world."

For the past 36 years, GEICO associates have been raising essential funds for the hospital. GEICO dedicates an associate giving campaign each summer specifically for Children's National Medical Center, which includes bake sales, book sales, a silent auction and more - all organized and promoted by the associates. Their efforts have contributed more than $1 million dollars to Children's Hospital research and patient care.
