GEICO Special Investigator Named Oregon's Top Auto Insurance Investigator

PORTLAND, Ore., March 2, 2009 – Kelly McEnry of Washougal, Wash., with GEICO's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) was named the 2008 Investigator of the Year by the Oregon Chapter of the International Association of Special Investigative Units (IASIU).

He was recognized for his work with local law enforcement and the National Insurance Crime Bureau in uncovering multiple auto insurance claims scams related to stolen social security numbers and addresses and staged accidents. His work helped uncover fraudulent claims filed with several insurance carriers, and helped rescue numerous identities of people whose personal information had been stolen in order to open fraudulent policies.

McEnry was nominated for the award by his GEICO SIU supervisor Bill Brown, who praised McEnry's vast auto claims knowledge and outstanding investigative work.

"What Kelly did didn't just impact GEICO. He went above and beyond, and was the first person to make the connection that the same individual was filing all of these fraudulent claims," said Lori Person, president of the IASIU Oregon Chapter. "If it weren't for Kelly making that discovery, the case would never have been prosecuted."
