Local Gray woman is honored for her volunteerism

GEICO recognizes Crystal Davidson as community volunteer of the year

MACON, Ga., March 20, 2009 – Crystal Davidson of Gray, Ga., is this year's honored recipient of the GEICO Volunteer Service Awards. Davidson recently attended special ceremonies at GEICO's headquarters in Washington, D.C., to recognize the contributions she has made to the Macon community.

Davidson, a workforce coordinator who started her career at GEICO in 2000, has spent the past four years working with Rebuilding Macon. The group helps to renovate and rebuild the homes of the elderly or disabled in the community.

"One weekend a year Rebuilding Macon volunteers gets together and work on about 80 houses," Davidson said. "We put in ramps, repaint peeling walls, fix screen doors and a lot more to rebuild the local residents' homes."

Davidson got involved in Rebuilding Macon to help become a better part of her community. Now a team captain, she recruits GEICO volunteers and she and her husband, Paul, take pictures at the events and participate on the big day each year.

"This is a great program that allows us to help our neighbors and we see the immediate results," Davidson said. "The people we help are just so happy with our work and that really makes all of us feel like valued members of our local community."

GEICO's Shawn Burklin, regional vice president of Southeast operation, said, "Crystal was chosen because she epitomizes the spirit of volunteer service. GEICO rewards its associates who make a difference by contributing to the organizations for which they volunteer. We have donated $1,000 to Rebuilding Macon, at Crystal's request."

The GEICO Volunteer Service Award is presented annually to recognize the many contributions GEICO associate volunteers make.
