Eight Washington area associates among employees who earned GEICO Corporate Quality Awards

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 30, 2009 – Eight GEICO associates from the Washington area were among the employees who were recently presented with GEICO's top Corporate Quality Award for their significant contributions to the company in 2008.  They represented seven national project teams and nearly 500 company employees from around the country:

Local award winners were:

  • Charlie Brown of Fredericksburg, Va., and Chris Wells of Fairfax, Va., who led a team that developed a database to track payments due to GEICO from other insurers and speed up the recovery time. 
  • Chris Hoffman of Columbia, Md., and Dom Smith of Friendship Heights, Md., for leading a team that created an Internet sales application to assist customers with their coverage and buying decisions.
  • Ed Hough of Frederick, Md., for being a co-leader of a team that initiated a new corporate system to help expedite vehicle repairs for customers in every state.
  • Dan McCarron of Gaithersburg, Md., and Rachel Veness of Fairfax, Va., for leading a team of associates around the country that developed a campaign along with related systems and database capabilities to expand GEICO's sales and marketing reach.
  • Kanika Sachdeva of Bethesda, Md., for helping lead a team that created more flexible auto insurance payment plans for customers across the country. The project involved some 323 analysts, developers, project management team members and general counsel representatives.

CEO Tony Nicely in presenting the awards said, "We had a variety of projects and they are all critical. Not only did we get the results we were looking for, we also learned how to be better at doing these improvement projects along the way. These projects can take a long time to complete, but they are so valuable to our future."
