WASHINGTON, D.C., January 14, 2010 – In keeping with the charitable sentiments of the holiday season, GEICO’s office of Public Affairs recently hosted a luncheon at Maggiano’s Little Italy in Chevy Chase, Md., to celebrate its long-lasting relationships with several of the company’s philanthropic partners.
At the event, GEICO presented a surprise donation to representatives from the Boys and Girls Club of Washington, D.C., the National Institutes of Health Charities (NIH), Children’s Hospital, Fight for Children and the D.C. Urban League.
"We’ve spent years working together with the organizations in this room; we consider you our best friends and we are so pleased to be your partner. This is our way of saying thank you." said Rynthia Rost, vice president of GEICO Public Affairs.
"GEICO and its employees are on the frontlines of giving and kindness. They share their time and their expertise to help our community with its numerous needs, and we are proud to be associated with their leadership," said Randy Schools, president and CEO of the NIH Recreation and Welfare Foundation.
The funds donated to NIH will support programs such as Special Love-Camp Fantastic, Friends of the Clinical Center, and Children’s Inn.
In addition to the NIH, GEICO has supported Children’s Hospital for more than 30 years, and continues to build new partnerships with similar organizations. In 2004, GEICO started working with Fight for Children, which promotes and cultivates quality education for low-income children in the D.C. area.
"Over the past few years, GEICO has become one of Fight for Children's closest and most valuable partners," said Jeff Travers, director of external relations for Fight for Children. "GEICO's associates know that all kids deserve a great education. With their financial and volunteer support of our efforts, the team at GEICO is stepping up to the plate and giving kids in the Nation's Capital a chance at a bright future."
On behalf of NIH, Schools also presented a check to Fight for Children thanks in part to the funds raised from the GEICO Powersports-sponsored event, Bikers for Tykes & Troops, which both organizations participated in.
