ATLANTA, Ga., March 3, 2010 – While speeding behind the wheel is a definite don’t, it’s full-speed ahead for GEICO and the Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta Inc. with the DASHboard Road Safety program.
On Saturday, March 6, 150 Girl Scouts ages 11 – 18 will gather at Auto Impact of Marietta, from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. for an interactive Road Safety program. Girls will take part in a day-long program to help them learn about staying safe when they’re driving.
They’ll see a presentation by the Cobb County Police Department using remote control cars and impaired vision goggles, meet local police officers and do an exercise designed to test their knowledge on road signs and safety tips. In an effort to educate Girl Scouts on preventative maintenance, GEICO auto damage representatives will show the girls how to change a tire, jump a car, and check necessary car fluids.
The event is part of a comprehensive road skills, auto care and driving safety series designed to help the girls earn the new GEICO Road Safety Patch showing they have learned how to make smart decisions on the road.
“GEICO is working hard to educate teens on road and vehicle safety through our teen safe driving program and by partnering with great organizations like the Girl Scouts,” said Rynthia Rost, GEICO vice president.
"We are happy to partner with GEICO in presenting such an important program to the girls of our community," said Marilyn Midyette, CEO of Girl Scouts of Greater Atlanta. "The DASHboard Road Safety Patch Program provides a hands-on opportunity for teen drivers to learn the dangers of distracted driving, driving under the influence and the basics of car care.”
