GEICO and AZA Gecko Exhibit make an appearance in Atlanta

GEICO policyholders to receive special offers and discounts

ATLANTA, Ga., July 27, 2010 – After touring several zoos and aquariums all across the United States, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) and GEICO will be bringing their live gecko exhibit to Zoo Atlanta starting July 26 through August 30. To celebrate, Zoo Atlanta has two special discount programs available for GEICO policyholders.

The GEICO exhibit features Giant Day Geckos and is part of a three-year partnership between GEICO and the AZA. Through the partnership, the geckos have traveled around the country to AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums, helping people understand the importance of preserving the environment.

“Zoo Atlanta is delighted to be the latest stop for GEICO’s traveling exhibit,” said Raymond King, president and CEO of Zoo Atlanta. “The exhibit will offer our members and guests a unique addition to their experience while providing the zoo with yet another fascinating illustration of our commitment to conserving biodiversity around the world.”

Zoo Atlanta is the oldest cultural institution in Atlanta. It also houses the nation’s largest collection of great apes and is a global center of excellence for the care and reproduction of vanishing amphibians and reptiles. Zoo Atlanta is also one of only four zoos that houses giant pandas in North America.

“This partnership has proven to be a fabulous opportunity to raise awareness about the importance of animal and wildlife conservation," said Rynthia Rost, vice president of public affairs for GEICO. “The traveling exhibit has already gotten off to a great start so far, and we know that the rest of the year will be just as successful.”

"By traveling to many different accredited zoo and aquariums, we've been able to reach thousands of people with our conservation message," said Jim Maddy, AZA President and CEO. "Through this partnership with GEICO, we've already made an impact on the lives of many children who might not otherwise know about the importance of wildlife conservation.”

Zoo Atlanta is providing two special offers for GEICO policyholders. From July 26 to August 30, GEICO policyholders who use their GEICO insurance cards can save $5 for each general admission ticket they buy. In addition, GEICO policyholders can save $10 for a zoo membership at any level.*
