MACON, Ga., August 6, 2010 – GEICO’s board of directors recently named Carl Tims, CPCU, of Lakeland, Fla., assistant vice president in charge of claims for the Southeast regional operations office in Macon, Ga.
After graduating from Georgia Southwestern State University, Tims began his career with GEICO in 1992 as a service counselor in Macon. He soon moved to liability claims as a claim service representative (CSR) and progressed to continuing unit examiner before becoming a CSR supervisor in 1998. Subsequently, Tims supervised telephone claim representatives and became a claims manager in Macon in 2003.
Two years later, Tims moved to GEICO’s headquarters in Chevy Chase, Md., to be the director of claims performance review. While at GEICO headquarters, Tims entered GEICO’s executive assistant program. Later he went on to serve as liability claims director for the Lakeland, Fla., regional office. Tims completed studies for the professional designation of Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter and also holds designations for Claims Law, Associate in Claims.
“At every stop during his career, Carl has done an outstanding job for GEICO,” said Senior Vice President Don Lyons. “I am confident that he will succeed in filling the very large shoes of the previous assistant vice president, Gary Musolf.”
Musolf served as Southeast claims assistant vice president since 2007 and is retiring following a 43-year career with GEICO. He joined GEICO in 1967 as a claim service representative at the company’s headquarters in Maryland. Musolf moved to the Macon office in 1974 and advanced through the claims ranks there, managed both liability and auto damage claims, and launched the company’s first direct-handling unit in 1989.
Musolf has also served for 27 years as director of the GEICO Road Race to benefit the Special Olympics, raising over $400,000. For ten years he has also been the GEICO representative coordinating the annual Relay for Life which is the major fund raiser for the American Cancer Society.
“Gary has dedicated a large part of his life to GEICO, and his contributions to our company’s associates and customers are unsurpassed,” said Shawn Burklin, regional vice president of the company’s Southeast operations in Macon. “This is not hyperbole: Gary is a true legend.”
