GEICO announces new officer appointments and assignments

MACON, Ga., September 17, 2010GEICO’s board of directors recently announced several new officer changes for GEICO’s regional operation in Macon, Ga.

Scott Markel

Scott Markel was elected vice president and will manage GEICO’s Midwest regional operation. Previously, he served as assistant vice president for underwriting, sales and service for the Midwest region. Markel started his career at GEICO in 1986 as a service counselor at the company’s corporate headquarters in Washington, D.C. Following various positions there, he served as a sales director in Fredericksburg, Va. and was then invited to enter GEICO’s executive assistant program. He graduated from Strayer College with a degree in business administration.

Mary Zarcone

Mary Zarcone was chosen to be the new regional vice president for the company’s Southeast operation. Previously, Zarcone headed up Midwest operation – also based in Macon. Zarcone joined the company in 1972 as a sales and service counselor.

Rick Hoagland

Rick Hoagland was named assistant vice president of underwriting for GEICO’s Midwest operation. Prior to this position, Hoagland served as the assistant vice president for claims in the Midwest region. Hoagland joined GEICO in 1994 as a telephone representative at the company’s office in Fredericksburg, Va.

Suzanne Worthen

Suzanne Worthen was named assistant vice president of claims for the company’s Midwest operation. Worthen moves to Macon from GEICO’s regional office in Dallas, Texas, where she served as the assistant vice president of claims. Worthen joined GEICO in 1986 as a total loss evaluator in the Dallas office.
