WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 23, 2010 – Attention all budding filmmakers and artists, it's time to grab a camera and a sketch pad and get to work to enter the GEICO Safety Poster and Video Contest.

The national contest is all about who can best illustrate the message that proper vehicle safety can saves lives. The contest has gone through a bit of a change this year; students will now have a choice of topics they can choose from (proper seatbelt safety, how to prevent distracted driving, and alternatives to texting while driving) and students will be divided into three age groups (elementary, middle and high).

All students – public, private and home schooled, from grades 1 through 12 – are invited to enter the competition. Various cash prizes will be awarded to winning students and schools with grand-prize winners will also receive a cash prize to go towards their art program.

There are three ways to win; students can create a hand-drawn poster, a compute-generated poster or produce a short video. GEICO has a new Website for students with the complete rules, entry guidelines, frequently asked questions and information on each category along with the prize list. Go to geicosafetycontest.com  for all the details and to see previous years winning entries.

The contest deadline is December 17, 2010, and after the winners are announced, GEICO will reprint and circulate the winning posters to schools, businesses, and safety groups across the country.

Winners of this year’s new video category will be featured on geicosafetycontest.com  as well as GEICOteendriving.com.
