WASHINGTON, D.C., September 24, 2010 – GEICO associates at the company’s headquarters in Chevy Chase, Md., as well as those in Fredericksburg, Va., and the Tower Oaks office in Rockville, Md., have united with GEICO’s Philanthropic Foundation to donate a record breaking total of $200,000 to Children’s National Medical Center.
Led by campaign chair Derrick Millard of Washington, D.C., and co-chair Jung Park of Annandale, Va., GEICO associates created a variety of fundraising events throughout the month of July, including silent and live auctions, luaus, iPad drawings and even a Texas Hold’Em poker tournament to top last year’s record contribution. All totaled, associates raised $143,000, in addition to GEICO’s Philanthropic Foundation donation of $57,000.
Millard presented the check to Barbara Schroeder, director of Corporate and Foundation Relations, and Heather Elliott, associate director of Workplace Giving at Children’s National, during a presentation at the company's headquarters on Sept. 17.
“GEICO is among our most dedicated corporate partners,” said Schroeder. “Each year, the campaign run by the GEICO associates raises the standard for workplace giving campaigns. We are deeply grateful for this decades’ long partnership.”
“GEICO’s partnership with Children’s National Medical Center spans more than 38 years,” said Millard. “The company’s contributions go to numerous hospital programs that help to advance patient care as well as transform the lives of area children.” Over the past decade, GEICO has donated over $1.5 million.
