GEICO proud to announce awards for company's top fraud fighters of the year

WASHINGTON, D.C., October 29, 2010GEICO names two associates as its top fraud fighters of the year:

  • Nancieanne Hopkins of California earned the company’s Investigator of the Year award for her tenacious attitude when pursuing investigations and the exceptional results achieved from her efforts.
  • GEICO also singled out Gina Kwan of New York as the company’s Analyst of the Year for helping identify the work of staged accident rings.

Hopkins has been with GEICO’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) for nearly 10 years where she has worked on well over 1,000 investigations. She was cited for her thorough investigations and dedication, and has built a strong reputation for the number of arrests and convictions that result from her fraud investigations.

“I’m thrilled to receive this award,” said Hopkins. “I get to solve mysteries. I get to find the truth as the result of my investigations. With the help of the California Department of Insurance and local law enforcement, I get to help my company fight fraud. I really love my job.”

Gina Kwan has been with GEICO for eight years, three of which have been in SIU. She was selected Analyst of the Year for her hard work relating to a staged accident ring. After keeping track of a cluster of suspicious claims, Kwan had investigators look into the various cases and discovered similar potentially fraudulent acts like targeting similar drivers and vehicles. Her work resulted in three federal arrests and eight state arrests.

“This award is an honor and it’s such an achievement for me and everyone who worked on this assignment,” said Kwan. “Our job is to focus on groups who target fraudulent opportunities and at this time we feel we are one step closer in detecting and deterring fraud."

“We have some of the best SIU investigators and analysts in the industry,” said Steve Rutzebeck, director of GEICO’s SIU. “Nancieanne and Gina have both provided this company with a great service by helping to fight fraud and we’re honored to have them as a part of our team.”
