Joe Thomas named recipient of Hampton Roads Corporate Excellence Award

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va., Dec. 7, 2010 – GEICO Regional Vice President Joseph R. Thomas has been recognized as the 2010 Hampton Roads Corporate Volunteer Leadership honoree for his vital role and commitment to workplace volunteer programs that have strengthened the Hampton Road communities. GEICO continues to lead the way through its philanthropic and fundraising efforts as a major sponsor for causes such as the local United Way, American Cancer Society and Virginia Special Olympics.

“In 2009, more than 1,300 GEICO associates volunteered over 5,900 service hours in Virginia communities,” said Thomas. “Our associates have taken their talents into schools, neighborhoods and community centers, volunteering in areas where help is needed most. This award is a culmination of their hard work in helping to make GEICO a great corporate partner in Virginia.”

The Hampton Roads Corporate Volunteer Excellence Awards are presented annually by VOLUNTEER Hampton Roads and in partnership with the Hampton Roads Corporate Volunteer Council and with Virginia Business magazine. Thomas will be honored on Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2010 at the Waterside Norfolk Marriott.
