WASHINGTON, D.C., March 2, 2011 – GEICO recently signed on to sponsor professional angler Robert Pearson. Pearson will don the GEICO logo and the familiar GEICO Gecko on his uniforms, boat and truck at major fishing tournaments across the country.
Named in honor of Forrest L. Wood (FLW), the legendary founder of Ranger Boats, FLW along with Bassmaster Tournaments are becoming extremely popular and can be seen regularly on television. ESPN 2 and ESPN 3 host a Bassmaster series and the FLW Outdoor series is broadcasted on Versus Country and the World Fishing Network. Pearson’s next scheduled tournament appearance is March 2-5, at the Prairie Creek Marina in Rodgers, Ark.
"FLW is the most recognized series of tournaments in competitive fishing and having GEICO as a sponsor will raise awareness for the angler profession by leaps and bounds," said Pearson. "As a long-time fan of the GEICO brand, this is a great opportunity for our sport."
Pearson started competing in the FLW Outdoors tournament in 1998. The Oak Hill, Va., native is also an accomplished entrepreneur who owns and operates three businesses and is one of the few African-American anglers on the FLW Tour. Since 2006, GEICO has also sponsored female angler Christiana Bradley of Bealeton, Va. Bradley has been on the Bassmaster Tour since 1999.
