WASHINGTON, D.C., May 3, 2011 – Last night GEICO honored the outstanding contributions of five government employees with its 2010 Public Service Awards. Tony Nicely, GEICO chairman, president and CEO, recognized this year’s honorees for their exemplary service, commitment and community leadership during a special awards ceremony on May 2 at the National Geographic Society Museum in Washington, D.C.
GEICO Federal Program - 2010 Public Service Award Honorees
Michelle Bledsoe, Barstow, Ca., fire inspection captain, Barstow Fire and Emergency Service Division, United States Marine Corps logistics base, for her contributions and improvements in fire safety and prevention.
Roger L. Hayes, Robins, Ga., chief safety officer, Robins Air Force Base, Ga., for his work spearheading safety awareness programs and fostering community partnerships.
Stephen G. Mann, Twentynine Palms, Calif., head of the substance abuse prevention and treatment, United States Marine Corps, community services, for his significant contributions in the field of substance abuse prevention, education and treatment that has helped to rehabilitate military service members.
Scott E. Olsen, Pope, N.C., orthopedic physician assistant, Air Force special operations command, Pope Air Force Base, for his efforts in providing expert medical care to military personnel and their families.
Glenn Turner, Nashville, Tenn., retired, United States Air Force, for his tireless efforts, commitment and support of veterans.
"The commitment and humanitarian efforts of these five people epitomize our national spirit of volunteer service," said Nicely. "Their work has helped to shape the lives of individuals in communities all across America."
The GEICO Public Service Award was given in the fields of fire safety and prevention, safety and accident prevention, substance abuse prevention and treatment, expert medical care and veterans outreach. GEICO presented each of the five winners with a $2,500 cash award and an all-expense paid trip to the ceremony. 2011 marks the 31st year that GEICO has honored government employees with its Public Service Awards.
