WASHINGTON, D.C., June 24, 2011 – Sixty-four college and university students around the country have earned $1,000 GEICO Achievement Awards for their achievements they demonstrated during the 2010-2011 academic year.
This GEICO program has been in place for more than 20 years, and this year recognizes students from 43 different schools, 18 states, and the District of Columbia.
The 2011 GEICO Achievement Awards are presented to students who have excelled academically in business, computer science, mathematics or a related program and have demonstrated leadership within their campus or community. For consideration, each candidate submits an application, along with an essay and a letter of recommendation.
"We know that the future belongs to those who prepare," said GEICO chairman Tony Nicely. "These students are preparing themselves for professional success through their academic accomplishments and leadership abilities. They’re building a very strong foundation and we congratulate them on their achievements thus far."
The GEICO Achievement Award Program requires that students are undergraduates attending an accredited four-year college or university, possess sophomore or junior status, and have a 3.0 overall GPA or higher when they apply.
