WASHINGTON, D.C., May 1, 2012 – GEICO is proud to announce that Petty Officer David A. Neuner is the Coast Guard recipient of GEICO’s 2011 Military Service Award for his work in fire safety and fire prevention. Petty Officer Neuner was assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard Navigation Center’s (NAVCEN) Navigation Information Service in Alexandria, Va., when nominated.
Petty Officer Neuner has been an active volunteer with the Occoquan Woodbridge Lorton Volunteer Fire Department for more than two years. He has conducted fire prevention awareness training at local elementary schools and has educated the public during service calls and fire department open house events by discussing and demonstrating fire safety topics such as the operation, maintenance and testing of carbon monoxide and smoke detectors. He has also provided annual Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) training to NAVCEN personnel.
Petty Officer Neuner is married to Naomi M. Neuner and they have a 2½-year-old daughter.
Capt. Frank Parker of NAVCEN said, “Petty Officer Neuner’s passion and approachable personality enable him to successfully articulate the importance of fire safety at public education events, particularly with children and the elderly.”
GEICO chairman Tony Nicely presented Petty Officer Neuner the award at a ceremony yesterday in Washington, D.C.
