Coast Guard's Tomas Kaselionis recognized as GEICO Military Service Award recipient

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 1, 2012GEICO is proud to announce that Damage Controlman Third Class Tomas Kaselionis, currently assigned to the U.S. Coast Guard Pacific Strike Team at Novato, Calif., is the National Guard and Reserve component recipient of GEICO’s 2011 Military Service Award. DC3 Kaselionis was nominated for this award for his work in fire safety and fire prevention.

In addition to supporting numerous emergency response efforts such as the attacks of September 11, 2001, and the 2010 Deepwater Horizon Gulf Oil Spill, DC3 Kaselionis has worked with the Novato City Council, the city fire and police departments and the Novato Disaster Volunteers Council to support the fire department with leadership and organization for community disaster preparedness and response. He has also reached out to a neighboring city to develop a volunteer program to provide incident management and public sector support during times of need.

DC3 Kaselionis’ emergency training was demonstrated in August 2010 when he saved the life of a co-worker by applying the Heimlich maneuver. He has also given some of his free time by coaching youth football in Novato for the past 10 years. DC3 Kaselionis is married to wife Kimberly and is the father to two stepchildren.

Cmdr. William Carter, DC3 Kaselionis’ commanding officer, said, “[Kaselionis’] extensive efforts in fire safety, prevention and related life safety activities clearly demonstrate a dedication to his community. That his activities are all volunteer services make his endeavors even more praiseworthy.”

GEICO chairman Tony Nicely presented DC3 Kaselionis the award at a ceremony yesterday in Washington, D.C.
