GEICO names Maria Scarangella assistant vice president

TUCSON, Ariz., June 27, 2012 – Maria Scarangella has been named assistant vice president and will oversee underwriting operations in GEICO’s Tucson office, which has primary responsibility for the states of Arizona, Utah, Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Montana and Washington.

Scarangella had previously served as sales director in the company’s San Diego regional office since 2003. She started her career in 1985 in GEICO’s Woodbury, N.Y., office working as a claims associate. She then moved to human resources before being promoted to manager of homeowners’ sales and service in 1992. She was then promoted to manager of a combined sales and service unit in 1996.

Scarangella moved to San Diego in 1999 when she was promoted to human resources director. From 2000 to 2003, she served as director of service for GEICO’s West Coast operations.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in management from St. John’s University and an MBA from Adelphi University.
