WASHINGTON, D.C., August 2, 2012 – Motorcycle riders turn up in a lot of important places. Rolling Thunder rides into Washington, D.C., each Memorial Day to salute the fallen. Marlon Brando and James Dean rode to movie stardom on motorcycles. And Sturgis, in the Black Hills of South Dakota, becomes the cycle capital of the country every August when more than 500,000 riders convene.
Just as important are the 40 separate Ride for Kids cycle fundraising events throughout the year that benefit the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. From Florida in the South to Puget Sound in the Northwest, riders all across the country get into gear for the program
GEICO signed on again to sponsor Ride for Kids so that more research can be funded and that more families can find support.
“We’ve learned these riders have big hearts,” said Tom Garner, GEICO powersports director. “Sometimes they know people who are going through a personal crisis, but mainly they know they can be of some help and encouragement. We’re glad to have a chance to work with them.”
With more than 20 Rides scheduled for the rest of the year, people can either register to ride or volunteer to help out at a ride near them. The schedule for the year and signup information is located at http://www.pbtfus.org/rideforkids/.
