WASHINGTON, D.C., August 3, 2012 – Get ready motorcycle fans! GEICO announced today that it will serve as the official insurance company for the largest motorcycle rally in the U.S. More than half a million people are expected to converge on Sturgis, S.D., August 3-11, 2012, for the 72nd Annual Sturgis Motorcycle Rally.
“2012 marks the eight year we have been participating, so we are very excited to serve as the exclusive insurance company for such a great event,” said Ted Ward, GEICO vice president. “Sturgis is one of the largest and most well-known motorcycle events in the world. GEICO will have activities and events at two locations in Sturgis. On Main Street next to the Armory, there will be a “Meet and Greet Gecko” and a roaming Gecko for the fans along with tons of free giveaways. At the Buffalo Chip’s location, the #13 GEICO Ford Focus driven by NASCAR driver Casey Mears will be on display along with the Gecko to meet with the fans and sign autographs.
Participants will also have a chance to see a new custom-built, GEICO military tribute bike created by Paul Teutul Jr., of the Discovery Channel’s television show, “American Choppers: Senior vs. Junior.” The bike is built in honor of the military and its service members. Be on the lookout for a very special unveiling taking place at the Buffalo Chip Campground on August 6, 2012.
