GEICO recognizes two associates with Volunteer Service Awards

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 11, 2012GEICO has selected Lilly Smith of Silver Spring, Md., and Stephanie Baldwin of Lakeland, Fla., as this year’s recipients of the GEICO Volunteer Service Awards.

Smith, a business analyst at GEICO’s corporate headquarters, received the John Thorne Corporate Community Citizens (GCCC) Award for serving as GEICO’s Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (CFF) campaign chair, co-chair of the company’s United Way campaign and also as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society, Relay For Life and Shepherd’s Table soup kitchen. The John Thorne Award recognizes the spirit of volunteerism that former GEICO associate John Thorne exemplified during his career at the company’s Woodbury, N.Y. office.

Baldwin, an administrative assistant in GEICO’s Lakeland, Fla., regional office, was recognized for her service to the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA). During the SPCA Florida 5K charity walk in April 2012, Baldwin herself raised more than $2,000 for the GEICO team, which helped the office land the SPCA’s “Leader of the Pack” distinction.

The John Thorne GCCC Volunteer of the Year and GEICO Volunteer Service Awards are presented annually to two GEICO volunteer associates who exemplify the spirit of volunteer service both individually or through the GEICO Corporate Community Citizens.
