Race at Chicagoland Speedway kicks-off chase for NASCAR’s Sprint Cup
WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 13, 2012 – Start your engines! The chase for NASCAR’s 2012 Sprint Cup Series Championship begins on Sept.16 at the Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet, Ill. For the second year in a row, GEICO will serve as the event sponsor of the GEICO 400.
“The GEICO 400 is an exciting partnership that gives us ample opportunity to build brand awareness within the vast NASCAR community,” says Bob Piwowarczyk, GEICO senior marketing manager. “The Chicago area is a great place to raise our exposure with drivers we’d like to insure.”
The GEICO 400 is the kickoff for the 2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Championship. It’s the first of 10 playoff-styled races that will decide who is the world’s best stock car driver. The race also marks year two of GEICO’s sponsorship with the International Speedway Corporation (IRC), owners of the Chicagoland Speedway.

ESPN will broadcast the live event on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 2 p.m. ET. Practice runs will air on Friday, Sept. 14 on ESPN2 at 2 p.m. ET and on Speed TV at 6 p.m. ET. The GEICO/Germain Racing Team features NASCAR driver Casey Mears. Mears will be driving the #13 GEICO Ford Fusion.
