If you are a resident of Iowa, you could save up to 10% on applicable coverages by taking a defensive driving course. One way to take advantage of this discount is through an on-line defensive driving course. Since your time is valuable, you will find this course convenient and flexible to your needs.

The National Safety Council offers online defensive driving courses to GEICO policyholders. Please select the appropriate class from the links below:

Policyholders who are age 50 or older: National Safety Council

All other policyholders: National Safety Council

Completing our suggested defensive driving course offers you the following benefits:

  • Discounted price for GEICO policyholders age 50 or older.
  • Convenient processing. After successful completion, the course completion number will automatically be sent to GEICO. Your policy will then be updated to reflect the discount.

In Iowa, you may be eligible for this discount if:

  • The left hand corner of your auto insurance ID card indicates Government Employees Insurance Company or GEICO General Insurance Company; and
  • You are not required to carry a certificate of financial responsibility (SR-22); and
  • You have completed and passed a course approved by GEICO and the National Safety Council (NSC).
