The Garden State
Register your vehicle
If you are planning to visit a New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission office, bring your driver's license, Social Security number, proof of ownership, odometer reading, name and policy number of the insurance company licensed in New Jersey. Registration fees will vary by the type, year, and weight of your vehicle.
Obtain a driver's license
If you have moved to New Jersey from another state where you were a licensed driver, you need to purchase an examination permit within 60 days of becoming a New Jersey resident, or before the expiration of your out-of-state license, whichever comes first. Once you have purchased the permit you can begin the licensing process.
For more information on registering your vehicle and obtaining a driver's license, visit the Drivers and Vehicles sections of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission site.
