The internet was pretty different 25 years ago...

Let's Take a Look

1995 launched!

Tasked to build a website, our first web designer did what anyone would do. Went to a bookstore (a place that sold physical books made of paper) and bought a book about HTML. Our first site featured an audio welcome message and the ability to request a quote! All it took was 5 days to get it in the mail and see if you could save 15% or more on car insurance.

Real Time Quotes Online

Everyone knew 5 days could save you 15% or more more on car insurance. But we thought, what if... So we introduced real time quotes in 1998.

The Gecko debuts with a brand new site.

Sure, the Gecko gets the headlines, but let’s be honest here. What’s more fun for people? A lovable Gecko that became the face of our company or… being able to access your policy online! They’re both still here so we’ll just call it a tie.

You Can Buy Insurance Online

Only 12% of US households had high-speed internet** and the top site was AOL.***

People came for the savings but stayed for the best website (for insurance).

As more Americans accessed high speed internet at home, tech innovation soared. At GEICO, we invested in our site by offering a claims center, online accounts, and many more insurancy things.

There's just something about the number 15 and GEICO.

15 years after introducing our first website, we became the first insurance company to provide the ability to not only get a quote online but buy a policy right from your iPhone or Android mobile device.
