GEICO names Shawn Burklin to board of directors

SAN DIEGO, Calif., March 15, 2013 – Shawn Burklin of San Diego, Calif., has been named to the board of directors of the GEICO companies. Burklin has served as regional vice president of GEICO’s West Coast operations since 2010.

“Shawn has shown he has the problem-solving skills and creativity to successfully lead a major regional operation,” said Tony Nicely, GEICO chairman. “Those abilities will also make him a valuable contributor as a member of the board.”

Burklin began his GEICO career in 1995 in the claims department in the company’s Fredericksburg, Va., regional office, and soon afterward entered the company’s executive management program. In 1997 his legal background led to his assignment as a claims attorney and by 2000 he was named managing senior attorney.

Burklin went on to serve as assistant vice president of claims for GEICO’s Lakeland, Fla., regional office before being named vice president of corporate claims in 2007. Burklin became vice president of GEICO’s Southeast operations in 2008 before taking his current position at the company’s San Diego, Calif., regional office.

Burklin holds an undergraduate degree from Eckerd College in Florida and earned a juris doctor degree from the University of Florida.
