GEICO sponsors Miss Virginia's 2nd Annual Woman of Achievement Award

Virginia Beach, Va., March 27, 2013 – Are you committed to volunteerism and community service? Are you known to be a leader in your community? Do you have what it takes to be an outstanding woman in the Commonwealth of Virginia? If so, here's your chance to be a recipient of the Outstanding Woman of Achievement Award.

GEICO has partnered with the Miss Virginia Organization to honor outstanding female leaders in the community through the second annual Outstanding Woman of Achievement Award. This award honors non-pageant women, ages 25 and up, who demonstrate a strong commitment to volunteering and community service in the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Nominations will be accepted until Friday, May 31, and the winner will be presented with the award during the 2013 Miss Virginia pageant, June 27-29 in Roanoke, Va.

"One of the four points of the Miss Virginia and Miss America crowns represents community service," said Harlen Gudger, executive director of the Miss Virginia Organization. "We feel it's important to reach out and honor a lady outside our group who exemplifies this important aspect of the Miss America Organization."

The award recipient will receive complimentary tickets and hotel accommodations to the GEICO-sponsored Miss Virginia pageant at the Roanoke Civic Center. She will also be recognized during the pageant's telecast on June 29.

"Last year was the first time we honored a wonderful lady, the late Sen. Yvonne Miller, for her incredible achievements in education and public service," said Mark Schreier, director of marketing and production for the Miss Virginia pageant. "We hope to continue to recognize outstanding female leaders for many years to come."

Joe Thomas, GEICO's regional vice president, said "this award is one of the many ways we show our support and respect for volunteerism taking place in the Commonwealth of Virginia. We're proud to partner with the Miss Virginia Organization to honor exceptional women who are committed to volunteering and community service."
