GEICO Gecko's new book 'You're Only Human'

WASHINGTON, D.C., May, 3, 2013 –Socrates, an ancient Greek, liked to point people toward good decisions using reasoning. Now many centuries later the GEICO Gecko offers some modern day reasoning of his own.

"Reasoning makes you human. Reasoning and laughter make you more human.  Reasoning, laughter and a tail make you a gecko."

That's a quote from the Gecko's new book "You're Only Human" that was recently launched in New York.

Ted Ward, GEICO vice president of marketing and a good chum of the Gecko, recounts how it all happened. "About 18 months ago Workman Publishing contacted The Martin Agency, our long-time advertising firm, about a book idea.  They wondered if the Gecko was ready to put his colorful Gecko-like thoughts down on paper.  If so, Workman was ready to roll the presses.

"We didn’t hesitate.  Throughout all the years that the Gecko was working with us and seeing a lot of the country, he'd also been storing up a lot of observations. Since we couldn't put everything into those 30-second commercials about auto insurance, we wanted to give the Gecko his chance.  And he got right down to work."

For a preview, Ward recommends taking a look at the trailer for the book.

The Gecko has gained a loyal following since his early days.  People continue to be entertained by his adventures whether he's trekking across the U.S. or when he was sucked up in a pneumatic mail tube. And they're still intrigued by his accent.  U.K.?  Australia? Madagascar?

Copies of his book, published by Workman Publishing are available on, Barnes and Noble and from many other fine booksellers.

Let us leave you with another important quote from the Gecko's guide to life, "Don't be a spork.  The spork is part spoon, part fork, but pretty terrible at doing either job.  In other words, be 100 percent you and you'll be the best kind of YOU you could possibly be."

With such straight-talking good sense, is it any wonder why he's so popular.
