GEICO to host first-ever career fair on Facebook, June 11-12

WASHINGTON, D.C., June 10, 2013 – While posting last weekend's pictures, commenting on your friend's status update, or even "liking" some of GEICO's latest commercials, why not interact with a few GEICO recruiters through its first-ever career fair on Facebook?

Several GEICO recruiters will be online to chat with job seekers during the company's Facebook career fair, June 11-12, between 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT. Job seekers can post questions to the GEICO Careers wall on Facebook for recruiters to answer or they can 'friend' a recruiter and initiate a one-on-one chat.

"Our recruiters are great ambassadors for GEICO and we thought we'd try to utilize Facebook in a new way," said Shannon Smedstad, human resources branding and social media lead. "This is a first for our social recruiting efforts and another way to potentially connect with job seekers all across the country."

GEICO will provide a list of all GEICO positions and offer potential new hires a look inside the company through photos and videos.

"There is a feed of all GEICO positions, so job seekers can easily see what we are hiring for and apply," said Smedstad. "This is a great opportunity for job seekers to ask as many questions as possible about the jobs at GEICO."

Through its recruiting efforts on Facebook, LinkedIn and other sites, GEICO earlier this year was ranked No. 11 among major companies for social media talent communication by Stockholm-based global research firm Potentialpark. The GEICO Careers page was ranked No. 3 overall in Potentialpark's 2013 Top Employer Web Benchmark study.

GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) is a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies and is the second-largest private passenger auto insurance company in the United States. GEICO, which was founded in 1936, provides millions of auto insurance quotes to U.S. drivers annually. The company is pleased to serve more than 14 million private passenger customers and insures more than 23 million vehicles (auto & cycle).

Using GEICO's online service center, policyholders can purchase policies, make policy changes, report claims and print insurance ID cards. Policyholders can also connect to GEICO through the GEICO App, reach a representative over the phone or visit a GEICO local agent.

GEICO also provides insurance quotes on motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), boats, travel trailers and motorhomes (RVs). Coverage for life, homes and apartments is written by non-affiliated insurance companies and is secured through the GEICO Insurance Agency. Commercial auto insurance and personal umbrella protection are also available.
