GEICO names Kirk La AVP of the GEICO Insurance Agency, Pionne Corbin AVP of underwriting
BUFFALO, N.Y., July 11, 2013 – GEICO has announced that Kirk La has been named assistant vice president of the GEICO Insurance Agency and Pionne Corbin will take over as assistant vice president of underwriting in GEICO's Buffalo regional operation.
La will now have responsibility for GEICO's property insurance, boat insurance, overseas insurance and other specialty lines. He will remain in the Buffalo office, where he had been serving as assistant vice president for underwriting.
Corbin will succeed La as assistant vice president of GEICO's Buffalo office, with responsibility for all regional underwriting operations. Prior to the new appointment, she served as director of GEICO's commercial auto division since July 2012. She joined the division in 2009 as commercial operations manager with responsibility for sales, service and underwriting.
La began his career with GEICO while he was a student at Mercer University in Georgia. Upon graduation in 1997, he was hired as a management intern in Macon, Ga. After working in sales, service, underwriting and claims, he served in various claims management positions before becoming policyholder service manager for GEICO's Southeast regional operation in Macon.
La relocated to Virginia Beach, Va., in 2002 to manage motorcycle sales, service and underwriting; in 2003, he became director of GEICO's Motorcycle and Powersports division. In 2007, he was named assistant vice president with responsibility for underwriting, policy sales, policy service and GEICO's Powersports division in the Virginia Beach regional operations center.
La holds a bachelor's degree in business administration and an MBA from Mercer University. He is a certified underwriter and holds a claims law designation.
Corbin joined GEICO in 1993 as a management intern and, upon completing her internship in 1996, she became a Claims Service Representative (CSR) supervisor. Corbin rotated through the underwriting division where she was a sales supervisor and a service manager. She also managed the new business underwriting division and the reunderwriting division in 2004, then moved to claims in 2006, completing a Continuing Unit rotation.
Corbin graduated cum laude from the University of Mary Washington with a B.A. in economics.
