GEICO and Safe Kids Pima County to offer child safety classes and car seats
TUCSON, Ariz., Sept. 13, 2013 – Motor vehicle crashes remain a leading cause of injury and death for children, yet the fatality rate could be reduced by about half if the child safety seat was correctly used.* To help prevent injuries and fatalities, GEICO and Safe Kids Pima County are now offering "Ride Safe Kids" education classes at no charge for local families.
Pre-registration for the classes is required, since class sizes are capped and the proper seats must be pulled for the class. Call 520-546-7340 to reserve a spot and to share the child’s age and weight to ensure the right car seat is reserved.
"Parents want to know how to keep their children safe in their car seats," said Martha Furnas, GEICO's regional vice president. "We're happy to partner with Safe Kids to teach families about properly installing car seats. Together, we can help keep kids safe."
Families will also receive a free car seat upon completion of a 90-minute family auto safety class.
"Last year, we were able to distribute over 350 car seats," said Angela Aulisio, community relations liaison in GEICO's Tucson office. "This class is not only very informative for parents and family members, but it is also helping to keep our Tucson children safe."
"Ride Safe Kids" classes will be held at GEICO's Tucson office, located at 930 N. Finance Center Drive, near Speedway and Kolb, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on the following evenings:
- Thursday, September 26
- Thursday, October 24
- Tuesday, December 10
In addition, a Spanish class will be held at the Mulcahy YMCA at Kino Community Center, located at 2805 E. Ajo Way, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 12.
