GEICO associates pitch in for Philippine typhoon relief

HONOLULU, Hawaii, December 11, 2013 – On Sunday, Dec. 15, GEICO associates in Hawaii will be glued to their phones, eager to provide the great customer service the company is known for. This time, however, they'll be doing so to benefit the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

A team of 20 GEICO associates will participate in "Kokua for the Philippines," a telethon fundraiser taking place from noon to 5 p.m. at the Great Lawn at Hilton Hawaiian Village that will help raise disaster relief funds for those affected by the typhoon. The GEICO team will answer calls and take donations from 2:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

GEICO will also present a check at the telethon to the American Red Cross for $15,000. The funds were raised through a joint effort of a GEICO associate fundraising drive and a matching donation by the GEICO Philanthropic Foundation, the company's charitable giving foundation.

"GEICO associates were deeply impacted by the devastation in the Philippines cause by Typhoon Haiyan," said Tim Dayton, branch manager of GEICO's Hawaii office. "The response from GEICO associates throughout the country who have sent donations and from our associates here in Hawaii who have volunteered at the telethon has been inspiring."

In addition to the donation drive, the event will feature musical performances and appearances by entertainment personalities. The telethon will air live on local television and radio stations and will also be streamed live on the Kokua For The Philippines website. For additional information and to make a donation, go to
