Gov. Perry joins GEICO for ribbon-cutting of new Houston area claims operation
KATY, Texas, April 3, 2014 – Texas Gov. Rick Perry joined GEICO's Chairman Tony Nicely and Berkshire Hathaway's Chairman and CEO Warren Buffett today to celebrate the grand opening of GEICO's new claims operation in Katy, Texas. Some 340 new associates cheered on as Perry, Nicely and Buffett cut the ribbon on the 138,000-square-foot office, located at 21420 Merchants Way in Katy, Texas.
Gov. Perry noted, "For every company like GEICO that chooses to expand or relocate in our state, it means that more Texans are getting the opportunities they need to achieve their goals. That's why days like today are such a pleasure, as we celebrate both the hundreds of jobs this facility has already created, and the hundreds more to come. Key to our state's success are the opportunities created by employers like GEICO. And employers like GEICO wouldn't be creating those jobs here in Katy without the hard work and dedication of the people of this community."
At an event in December attended by Gov. Perry, GEICO announced the office opening and revealed it hoped to hire as many as 400 associates by 2015 and up to 1,000 associates within three years. GEICO chairman Tony Nicely said he was very pleased that the company was already approaching the preliminary hiring goal just four months later.
"The reception GEICO has gotten here in Katy and in the greater Houston area has just been phenomenal," Nicely said. "We are already getting close to reaching a hiring goal we had set for 2015, and the reason why that is that there are so many hard-working, dedicated professionals in this area who want to build fulfilling careers. We couldn't be more excited that they have come to GEICO to do that."
"The skills and work ethic of the new associates here in the greater Houston area have already surpassed my expectations," said Tara Carthew, branch manager of the new office. "There's such a passion here among our new associates to provide outstanding claims service, I can't say enough about how fantastic they have been. We're continuing to recruit candidates in this office, and judging from the associates we've already brought on I have no doubt that we'll find more outstanding professionals to join our team."
GEICO's office in Katy is recruiting for entry-level claims representatives, degreed candidates for liability claims representatives and college graduates for GEICO's fast-track management development program with a focus on claims operations.
