Anaheim teen receives grand prize for GEICO t-shirt design contest
SAN DIEGO, May 13, 2014 – The grand prize winner of GEICO's Distracted Driving T-shirt Design Contest was surprised at his high school when the GEICO Gecko appeared to award him with his prizes. Donghyeon Lee, a student at Troy High School in Fullerton, Calif., won the contest with his colorful, creative design that illustrates the dangers and showcases the causes of distracted driving.
Joined by his mother and sister, Lee was awarded a cash prize, 20 t-shirts for his friends and family and a letter from GEICO CEO Tony Nicely congratulating him on his success. GEICO Regional Manager LaDonna Bond presented Lee with his award, and he and the Gecko met fans and posed for pictures with students and teachers.
"Donghyeon's winning design will help us continue to spread awareness of the dangers of distracted driving," said Bond. "It was truly an honor to present the grand prize to such a talented student."
Lee's winning design is featured on national GEICO websites which can be viewed at GEICO's Safety Contest and at geicoteendriving.com. In addition, GEICO offices around the country received the winning t-shirt to wear to teen safe driving events and safety presentations.
GEICO invited students (ages 6 to 18) to submit a hand-drawn or computer-generated t-shirt design that depicts how to prevent all types of distracted driving, including texting and talking on the phone, eating, grooming, and adjusting the radio or GPS navigations while driving.
