GEICO honors three associates with volunteer awards for making a profound impact
WASHINGTON, D.C., Oct. 7, 2014 – Keeping with its rich tradition of volunteerism, GEICO recognized Keith Scott of Montclair, Va., Paige Garvin of Macon, Ga., and LaTasha Garvin of Locust Grove, Ga. with volunteer awards at a recent ceremony.
Scott, a systems analyst, received the 2014 Volunteer of the Year award for leading GEICO's Children's Hospital fundraising campaign at the Fredericksburg regional office. Since he began co-chairing this campaign in 2013, Scott and fellow associates have helped raise more than $30,000 for Children's National Medical Center. GEICO donated an additional $1,000 to the cause in honor of Scott's efforts. In addition to his work with Children's Hospital, Scott has led fundraising efforts for March of Dimes, where GEICO's contributions grew by more than 200 percent and the number of associates in the annual March for Babies walk in Fredericksburg doubled.
Paige Garvin, who works as a senior applications systems analyst, earned a John Thorne Volunteer of the Year award. Garvin devotes a large amount of her volunteering efforts to causes that help children. Since chairing the Macon office's Children's Hospital campaign, donations have doubled, and more than $11,000 was raised to purchase car seats for children. Additionally, Garvin works with Project Giving, a 100 percent volunteer-based organization that assists families with a member battling a critical illness.
LaTasha Garvin, a member of the human resources team, also won a John Thorne Volunteer of the Year award for her dedicated service to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Georgia. As a big sister, LaTasha supported her little sister by attending her school events and planning activities around their common interests, which include playing viola, singing and going to sporting events. More importantly, LaTasha helped her little sister get past her shyness and become a confident young woman. With LaTasha's support, her little sister won the Annexstad Family Foundation Scholarship which has allowed her little sister to attend Valdosta State University at no charge.
