About the National Children's Museum
The National Children's Museum (NCM), whose mission is "to inspire kids to care about and improve the world," was founded in 1974 as the Capital Children's Museum. Designated by the U.S. Congress as the only national museum focused on children and renamed the NCM in 2003, the museum houses exhibits and educational programs designed to spark children's imagination and creativity. Located at National Harbor in Prince George's County since 2012, the museum has welcomed more than 250,000 visitors over two years. The museum plans to return to a location within the District of Columbia in 2015 in order to expand accessibility and to reach a greater number of children, families and tourists in the Washington, D.C. metro area.
