Navy Chief Petty Officer Mario R. Brioli recognized as GEICO Military Service Award recipient

WASHINGTON, D.C., April 28, 2015 – GEICO is proud to announce that Chief Petty Officer Mario R. Brioli is the Navy recipient of the 2014 GEICO Military Service Award for his work in traffic safety and accident prevention. Chief Brioli is currently assigned to the USS Chafee (DDG 90), as the Divisional Leading Chief, Combat Fires Division, Combat Systems Department, Honolulu, Hawaii.

Chief Brioli serves as the USS Chafee's Motorcycle and Traffic Safety Program Coordinator. He dedicated 82 off-duty hours to conduct motorcycle safety briefings and facilitate new driver safety courses. Chief Brioli has worked diligently to enroll motorcycle riders into safe riding courses, while executing new motorcycle check rides and teaching new cycle owners an abundance of safe riding and maintenance techniques.

His contributions include also spending 120 off-duty hours coordinating 56 new driver training courses for 24 vehicle/cycle owners under the age of 25. This endeavor saved his Navy servicemen and women well over $10,000 in registration fees and associated costs. Chief Brioli also serves as a mentor to 24 motorcycle riders and maintains a file on each mentee to ensure that they are meeting safety requirements. He has also dedicated 95 hours of hands-on training and practical instruction.

Chief Brioli's dedication to upholding traffic safety training and standards has been vital to maintaining the zero fatalities and traffic accidents of Chafee sailors. He and his wife, Darcy, have two children.

GEICO chairman Tony Nicely presented Chief Petty Officer Brioli the award at a ceremony yesterday in Washington, D.C. "The tremendous undertaking by our servicemen and servicewomen to improve military and civilian communities in our country is a remarkable achievement, and GEICO is proud to honor the contributions from those individuals who might otherwise go unrecognized," Nicely said. "Chief Petty Officer Brioli's distinctive accomplishments reflect greatly upon himself and the members of the U.S. Navy. He has proven through his efforts in traffic safety and accident prevention that he is an exemplary member in the community and is deserving of this gracious honor."
