GEICO ridesharing policy now available to Ohio drivers
WASHINGTON, D.C., Sept. 17, 2015 – GEICO now offers its ridesharing insurance product, which delivers end-to-end coverage for personal and ridesharing use, to drivers in Ohio.
New and existing drivers that have been approved to drive for Uber (UberX and UberXL), Lyft, Sidecar and other services in Ohio can now get the insurance coverage they need through GEICO. Drivers can visit GEICO's commercial insurance site for a free rate quote or call (866) 509-9444.
"Ohio has seen substantial growth in its rideshare market, and GEICO wants to make sure these drivers are properly insured," said Don Robinson, GEICO regional vice president. "Our product eliminates coverage gaps for rideshare drivers and delivers a complete insurance solution at an affordable price along with GEICO's outstanding customer service."
"Because they use the same vehicle for personal use and to provide rides for a fee, rideshare drivers have unique insurance needs that go well beyond a traditional auto insurance policy," said Othello Powell, director of GEICO commercial lines. "Our policyholders appreciate comprehensive coverage and peace of mind, which our new product can give them."
GEICO's ridesharing product replaces the driver's personal auto policy and provides coverage regardless of whether the driver is logged into the transportation network company's app. The product is available through GEICO Commercial at a price significantly lower than taxi and commercial rates.
GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company) is a member of the Berkshire Hathaway family of companies and is the second-largest private passenger auto insurance company in the United States. GEICO, which was founded in 1936, provides millions of auto insurance quotes to U.S. drivers annually. The company is pleased to serve more than 14 million private passenger customers and insures more than 23 million vehicles (auto & cycle).
Using GEICO's online service center, policyholders can purchase policies, make policy changes, report claims and print insurance ID cards. Policyholders can also connect to GEICO through the GEICO App, reach a representative over the phone or visit a GEICO local agent.
GEICO also provides insurance quotes on motorcycles, all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), boats, travel trailers and motorhomes (RVs). Coverage for life, homes and apartments is written by non-affiliated insurance companies and is secured through the GEICO Insurance Agency. Commercial auto insurance and personal umbrella protection are also available.
