GEICO associates step up to give the gift of life

WOODBURY, N.Y., March 12, 2016 – One simple blood donation can save up to three lives says the American Red Cross. By that measure, GEICO associates in the company's Woodbury, N.Y., office may have helped save more than 3,500 lives in the past two years. GEICO employees were recently named as the top Long Island and Queens Corporate Blood Drive Group by the New York Blood Center for the second year in a row.

For 2014 and 2015, more than 600 GEICO associates stepped up to donate blood at several drives held at the office throughout the year. Many of GEICO's employees pre-register to donate blood at these drives; however, organizers saw an overwhelming response from employees who simply walked in to give after being inspired by so many of their colleagues.

"Our associates show a tremendous level of dedication to service, whether it's for our customers or to make a difference in their own backyard on Long Island," said John Pham, regional vice president of GEICO's New York operations. "I commend our associates for giving their time in such a selfless way and helping to save lives."

Donations like GEICO's help the New York Blood Center to provide roughly one million components of blood annually for surgical patients, accident victims, organ transplant recipients and more at nearly 200 hospitals in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Pennsylvania.

GEICO (Government Employees Insurance Company), the second-largest auto insurer in the U.S., was founded in 1936 and insures more than 28 million vehicles.
